Initial Situation
AudioQuest’s aim was to develop a high-end headphone that combines acoustic excellence with a unique design and responsible use of materials. ARBOFORM® is a thermoplastic material that can be processed using injection moulding, just like plastic, whilst retaining the acoustic properties of wood. As a result, it combines design freedom with natural sound quality and is particularly suitable for applications such as headphones, recorders or loudspeakers.

Material solution
For the housing structure of the NIGHTHAWK headphones, AudioQuest relies on ARBOFORM®, a lignin-based biomaterial that serves as a technically superior yet sustainable alternative to real wood and conventional plastics. ARBOFORM® enables an organic-looking design and a natural feel that perfectly aligns with the product’s design philosophy. At the same time, the material offers outstanding acoustic properties, as it reduces unwanted resonances and thus contributes to a particularly clear and natural sound.
