The first eco-friendly snow chain made from ARBOBLEND®

Initial situation
For use on public roads, snow chains must withstand extreme conditions: ice, snow, cold and high mechanical stresses. At the same time, there is a growing demand for alternative solutions, even for vehicle components that have traditionally relied heavily on metal and plastic. RUD Ketten Rieger & Dietz was therefore looking for a material that could reliably replace all non-metallic components of a snow chain without compromising its proven functionality.
Material solution
Using ARBOBLEND®, the bio-based material from TECNARO, it was possible to replace all the non-metallic components of the RUD compact® ÖKOmat snow chain. These include highly wear-resistant gear tensioning elements, flexible tension cable sheaths and soft, elastic rim protection components. ARBOBLEND® combines mechanical robustness, temperature resistance and durability with a resource-conserving approach to materials.
The bio-based material can be processed efficiently in series production and offers the necessary dimensional stability and surface quality to meet the high demands of road traffic.
